Recording a panoramic 8K video for viewing in VR is not an easy task. But it is not necessary to buy bulky equipment: the specialized Pilot Era camera fits in one hand, shoots in high resolution, it can work without an outlet for up to 3.5 hours and stream the picture via Wi-Fi and even 4G. And when ordering on Indiegogo, it also saves the owner $ 200 – is there no reason to upgrade your home video studio?
The camera is made in the form of a kind of "bar" and is equipped with four Sony super wide-angle sensors with a resolution of 12 megapixels. This arrangement allows the device to take spherical photos and capture panoramic video with a 360 ° viewing angle in resolutions up to 8K. Pilot Era can also be used for online broadcasts in 4K resolution without buying additional accessories. Stream is carried out using the built-in Wi-Fi module or via mobile Internet – the design provides a slot for a SIM card.
To store the footage, the manufacturer equipped the camera with a built-in storage device for 512 GB – this amount will be enough for storing 6.5 hours of 8K video or about 26 thousand panoramic photos. You can quickly transfer data to a PC via the built-in USB Type-C or Ethernet ports. The main control element of the device – a touchscreen display with a diagonal of 3.1 inches: it will not be difficult to sort out the Android-based firmware from smartphone users.
Due to its relatively small dimensions (159 x 61.4 x 61.4 mm), the Pilot Era is easily controlled with one hand. The weight of the device is 690 grams: during long shooting, it can be mounted on a tripod, the thread for which is provided on the bottom end of the case. Responsible for autonomy is the built-in battery with a capacity of 7200 mAh – according to the manufacturer, on one charge the camera is capable of recording 3.5 hours of video in 8K resolution.
When ordering on the crowdfunding platform Indiegogo, the first 50 customers will pay the camera $ 1799, then the price will increase to $ 1999. Delivery of orders starts in June.
