Publication Wired collected financial reports of the largest IT-companies with information about the average salary in each of them. It turns out that by no means in all corporations are employees making millions and basking in luxury. Even Apple, the richest IT company in the world, is far from being at the top of this rating.
Since last year, American companies are required to report the average salary of their employees and compare it with the salary of the CEO. According to the US Congress, this should prevent excessive remuneration of managers, which allegedly contribute to the crisis.
The richest in the past year were the employees of Alphabet, which includes Google. The average salary for the year in this corporation is $ 246,884 – a 25% increase compared with 2017. Alphabet representatives said that the significant increase was due to changes in the distribution of shares. In 2017, employees actually received only half of the remuneration, whereas last year the company resumed full payments.
Facebook ranked second, with an average salary of $ 228,651 in 2018, which is about 5% less than a year earlier. According to analysts, this did not affect the desire of people to work in a corporation. Moreover, according to Silicon Valley consultant Valery Frederickson, many are changing more lucrative jobs and high positions to get on Facebook.
Next on the list are Twitter ($ 172,703), NVIDIA ($ 155,035) and Intel ($ 106,900). Valerie Frederickson notes that these companies are in a very competitive environment. Their leaders understand this and are ready to pay high salaries in order to get good specialists.
Interestingly, at Amazon, IBM, Tesla and even Apple, the average income of employees is much lower than that of the above companies. This is due to the specifics of their activities. So, in Amazon ($ 28,036) most of the staff is engaged not in high-paying programming, but in warehouses, order taking and customer service. In Tesla ($ 56,163), a third of employees are on assembly lines, and Apple ($ 55,426) has a lot of retail store workers. At the same time, IBM, the majority of whose staff are programmers, has a relatively low average salary ($ 55,088: a large proportion of the state is in India, not in the USA.
