During the launch of the Glonass-M satellite into orbit from the Plesetsk cosmodrome, the unexpected happened. The Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle, when separated from the surface of the Earth, was suddenly struck by lightning.
In preparation for launching over the spaceport, it began to rain with a thunderstorm, but it was decided not to stop the operation. A few seconds after the rocket took off, lightning struck her. Reportedly, the blow fell on the fairing and the third stage of the launch vehicle. This did not affect the take-off in any way, since the Soyuz provides protection against such incidents. After that, the upper unit "Frigate" with the satellite "Glonass-M" on board in the normal mode separated from the third stage of the rocket.
"On Monday, May 27, at 09:23 Moscow time, a launcher No. 4 from the site No. 43 of the State test space center Plesetsk (Arkhangelsk region) was successfully launched by the Soyuz-2.1 medium-class launch vehicle the device Glonass-M ", – said the Ministry of Defense of Russia.
