Israeli startup REE proposed a completely new approach to the development of electric vehicles. Its essence is in the placement of all key components, which are usually located under the hood, inside the wheels. This opens up new opportunities for manufacturers, and the future, according to company employees, is behind modular cars.
“Until now, the industry has been working on the principle of gradual improvement of traditional vehicle design. In REE, we believe that in order to accelerate the automotive revolution, you need to reinvent the wheel – literally, ”said REE General Director Daniel Barel.
In California, at TechCrunch Mobility 2019, REE demonstrated its own furniture car platform. It is a small platform with four wheels. In the last and hidden all the most important elements.
The idea of a startup is that automakers can build any type of electric vehicle (from golfcar to pickup truck) using a ready-made platform. This should simplify and cheapen the process of releasing new models.
“Most automakers spend on developing and testing the platform. It takes billions of dollars and for many years. We suggest using one ready-made version, ”said Daniel Barel.
While there is no information, how soon the development of REE will go into mass production. Also, the manufacturer does not disclose the technical characteristics of its platform.
