The company Opera released the 60th version of the browser of the same name, which received the code name Reborn 3. A major update brings a redesigned user interface, increased security and privacy. This is the first desktop browser with support for the new Web 3 standard. The other important changes are the built-in cryptographic and free VPN.
“The web has changed our lives. Today we are constantly online. And the more time we spend online, the more we need tools that help control the security and privacy of our digital life. With today's update, we are taking the first step in Web 3, to a new web, where everything is under the control of the user. We believe that every browser in 2019 should have Web 3 support, ”said Christian Colondra, executive vice president of Opera.
One of the main innovations of Opera 60 was support for Web 3 – the future of the Internet based on the blockchain. Browser users can search for Web 3 applications directly through the address bar.
“Blockchain technology returns control to people. They can securely sign transactions and identify themselves on websites without having to provide extra data, ”said Christian Colondra.
The new version of Opera for desktops has received a cryptograph that is synchronized with the wallet in the Opera browser for Android. This means that the keys will never leave the smartphone. If you need to pass identification on the Web 3-site or confirm the transaction on the blockchain, the user will receive a notification on his smartphone, confirming the action with a password, fingerprint or face scan.
“The blockchain technology has evolved from simple storage of funds or speculative operations to technology that forms the Internet of tomorrow. We decided to accelerate the development of Web 3 by opening all our browsers on all operating systems with this technology. Thus, Opera was the first major browser developer to do this, ”said Christian Colondra.
Soon the cryptograph will appear in Opera Touch for iOS.
The new version of Opera also received a built-in unlimited VPN. It establishes a secure, encrypted tunnel that hides user data from third parties and its geographic location from sites. The built-in VPN service does not store logs, which means that VPN servers do not store any data about user actions for maximum privacy protection.
With the release of Opera 60, developers present an updated interface with a frameless design. Its feature was the absence of any dividing lines between sections, so that nothing distracts from the consumption of web content. The browser also received two special themes: light and dark. The user can switch between them depending on the mood, the background or the content being viewed.
Especially for the release of Opera 60, the company has created a short sci-fi film in which a woman travels in a futuristic world in search of control over her digital life. This work symbolizes new browser features.
The new version of Opera also has two special themes created based on the movie.
Opera 60 can already be downloaded from the company's website.
