Mojo Vision presented a prototype of a miniature display smaller than a regular grain of sand at the World Augmented Reality Expo. Despite the ultra-small size, the new product has a record-clear image – almost 30 times more than the current smartphone models.
The prototype of the display with a diagonal of 0.48 mm is based on MicroLED technology with a pixel density of 14,000 ppi – for comparison, the screens of modern flagship smartphones can boast an average value of this characteristic from 400 to 50 ppi. The pixel size of the Mojo Vision is 1.8 µm. The power consumption of the novelty is about 10% of the power consumption of LCD displays of the same dimensions with the brightness of the pixels up to 10 times higher than that of the OLED solutions.
The developers demonstrated the work of Mojo Vision using a microscope – it is not possible to see the picture with the naked eye on such a diagonal.
“This technological breakthrough has become the key to the development of the Mojo Vision AR solution, which will fundamentally change the future of computers and communications. Currently, Mojo Vision is exploring new ways of receiving and exchanging information, which allows it to increase its speed without compromising the user's perception of external things, ”said Steve Sinclair, senior vice president of the company.
Supposedly, Mojo Vision will find application in devices with augmented and virtual reality functions. The start date of mass production and the price of new items are not announced.
