California startup Alta Devices introduced the new Anylight Solar solar cells with record high efficiency. They are designed specifically for long duration drones (HALE). According to the company, their battery will allow drones to remain in the air for years.
Anylight Solar is based on Alta Devices single junction gallium-arsenide solar cells, which today have a record efficiency of 29.1%. They are coated with a special coating that improves aerodynamic properties and protects against various factors at a height of 20 km: strong ultraviolet radiation, ozone and extreme temperatures.
Alta Devices claims that its batteries are designed for mechanical and electrical integration into various drones and airplanes, offering the maximum surface area available today for flexible solar cells. According to the company, the output power of Anylight Solar in high altitude conditions is 300 W / m².
HALE drones have a number of potential applications, including cellular distribution, surveillance and surveillance, search and rescue operations, border patrolling and map creation. With Alta Devices solar batteries, these drones can be in the air for years after launch.
