Anyone can see that the donor of ideas from Rage is so-so. But since the authors took up a pug, they used the plot of the first part as a prehistory, at the same time returning a couple of familiar characters. The rest was changed or decorated than the god sent. After the events of the original 30 years have passed. The Earth still heals wounds from a collision with an asteroid, EcoSpheres are falling from orbit, around which plants come to life and swamps spill. And the gray-brown desert retreats to the ruins of old cities.
However, the spring inward is not all survivors. Defeated in the first part, the Government is again grinning at the remnants of humanity. For the revenge, General Cross has everything you need: a degenerate mimic, an army of mutants, an impressive fleet of vehicles and helpers in the ranks of good guys. And the hero – only power armor, shot in passing from the corpse, and even assault rifle. But this is enough to put all the waste on my ears.
Before defeating evil, it is necessary to strengthen the authority of the three leaders of the resistance – the old partisan John Marshall, the mad scientist Anton Kvasir and the iron lady Luzam Hagar. Everyone has their own interests: the first is pleased with the death of mutants and thugs-bandits, the second needs samples of the technology of the old Earth, and the third is asleep and sees how to destroy the infrastructure of the Government. As a reward for the dirty work, three branches of bonuses are opened – from the radar to search for caches to the upgrade of the throwing wing. However, in addition to time and effort, it is necessary to spend more money on improvements.

The open world is spacious and divided into biome-shaped areas, but there is absolutely nothing to explore. This is just a network of roads leading to the marks on the territory that is worse than West Virginia in Fallout 76 . Points of interest on the map too much. Literally: a quarter of the content is enough to run the campaign, the rest is optional for maniacs.
It seems that the developers have invested the entire charge of rebellion in the advertising and design of lilac punks, and the rest was not enough resourcefulness.
Have long met an action movie, where the levels are built of cargo containers, and the first story mission sends to the sewer? Here even the main tasks differ from the additional ones only in scale and bosses. But no one bothers to choose fun and opponents like. Someone else would have explained why to add such boredom to the game.

To the authors' chagrin, the Rage 2 is too easy a target for criticism. The shooter harnesses for a long time, torturing a half-hour tutorial, which contrasts sharply with the pace of the shootings and the traditions of the genre as a whole. And it would be okay if this introduction preceded the epic for all times, but no, the awl of 2011 was replaced with the soap of 2019. The script here for chickens to laugh – help three guys to nakostylyat fourth. Whoever spat from the denouement of the “Game of Thrones”, he still did not delve into the work of Avalanche.
The spacious world is completely devoid of intrigue. You always know what awaits around the bend: repetitions of missions, locations and stupid enemies, which either twist and tear, or kill each other with grenades, or even fall through the textures. "Come back and fight!" – shouts a bloke from a container, where it is impossible to get.
Driving along the roads on the armored car, looking at the ruins and talking with the characters, you constantly ask yourself the question: what the hell is wrong with the sequel? It's simple: the game looks like an aesthetic catastrophe. It's not about the engine – he performs the task like that. No, blockbuster is ugly in another sense. It is inhabited by ugly and asexual creatures, and where at least some civilization is visible, there is no artistic taste. Only mission tags, stupid even for post-apocalypse scenes and desperate attempts at humor. Who wants to save a similar universe?
On the contrary, the hunt to take a shotgun and destroy everything that breathes and moves. Wait a minute, but that’s what they propose to spend most of the time.
Rage 2 – not about the goal, meaning and drama. Instead, the employees of Avalanche put maximum effort into the process, in other words – in the sensations of firing and racing. The authors have achieved their goal: the first aspect is reminiscent of DOOM 2016, the second echoes Mad Max, which in itself is wonderful and at least justifies the hack. Only to compare these hits in the forehead means to prevaricate.
The guns in the new action really pleased, especially if you use a shotgun and a grenade launcher. Each barrel has a character: someone will like a shotgun, others will stick their souls to an assault rifle. However, it is not by chance that DOOM is called “spinal cord” : id Software extracted a mad drive from elementary control. But in Avalanche they acted differently: at the same pace, they wound up a bunch of possibilities on a good half of the keyboard. Only one kinetic shock and acceleration – two pieces. Go figure out what to use in the heat of battle.

Without the "Mad Max" is also not done. Another would be the creators passed by his own creation! Therefore, in Rage 2 you will find lairs and bandits on bridges, and convulsive search for hiding places, and completely hooligan hot rods, not to mention the familiar behavior of the vehicle on the track. However, for the plot races, instead of the usual car, the most clumsy clunker in the world is issued. In addition, Mad Max is a story about a real person who fights for his own, remembers the good, helps the destitute and more … takes care of the dog. As for the new protagonist, for him the dogs are only brisk targets: observation is small, but reflects the essence.

The paradox is that Rage 2 does not need excuses and comparisons with something else. She knows her place. Yes, virtual wastelands inhabit completely freaks, the hero parodies Dumgai, and the villain looks like President Nixon from Futurama. They made a budget, there nashtampovy samopovtorov. But look how brains fly out of that guy’s mohawk head. And on what pieces the thugs are successfully thrown by a grenade.
The potential of the combat system is revealed gradually – as the study of arks, upgrade capabilities and clashes with new enemies. But when this happens, the process carries away so much that the evening after the fighter seems a brief moment. Battles and pulls to test for variability, which is not enough scenario and the world of the sequel.
What, for example, will happen if you break into the lair of marauders and try to put everyone in the old-fashioned way from the machine gun?
And is it easy to manage one revolver with incendiary bullets? Or maybe turn around? Start with a kinetic strike, throw the flap in one bloke, shoot a couple of others in a jump, blow up the gas cylinder with the power of thought, then cut off the afterburner and arrange a violent atrocity? Of course, this is not a hit at all times. But the action turned out to be fascinating and even original, where it's nice to shoot and ride. You just need to give the game a couple of hours to build. Take in the summer only the beautiful: the music, poetry and savory crunch of skulls from Rage 2.
Nice to ride and shoot, and in the battles there is room for experimentation.
